Community Learning Development Resource 603 – 04
THE EVALUATION CYCLE – A GENERIC MODEL
SUMMARY
The cyclic model in this resource (603-04) provides a framework for any evaluation and monitoring strategy and practice.
STARTING POINT

- The model can be applied at all levels of the work – at individual worker level, within teamwork, within a whole agencies or projects, across services, partnerships and networks. The focus can be strategic and/or practical.
- The model can be applied internally, e.g., self-evaluation or externally, e.g., inspection
- The practical value of the model should be judged on its capacity for bringing about greater effectiveness and efficiency.
AN ADAPTATION OF THE MODEL FOR PROJECT SELF-EVALUATION

PROMPTS FOR REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION
- Do we need to understand the whole evaluation cycle, and the processes in order to make sense of evaluation?
- Do we need a planned evaluative strategy as part of our work?
