This resource provides a guide to the resources contained in the 201 category of resources, which are largely to do with an exploration of learning (and teaching) within the context of working with groups of people. This resource also identifies some potential learning outcomes for those using and learning with this category of resources.

Listening skills – active listening – a key skill

Active listening is focusing your attention on words, actions and feelings.  It is more than listening to just the content of an intended message – it is trying to understand what is behind the content – the full message and context.

The problems in communication between individuals come from the effects of a range of barriers – a number are identified. This resource 210-04 also looks at what makes for good communication.

This resource looks at informal and formal learning groups, recognising that learning is likely to occur in all group activities. An analysis of the the psychology of group behaviour is provided

A summary of the processes, functions and roles within groups is provided together with a tabulation of named group roles by which group behaviours and individual roles and functions have been categorised..

In this resource, what makes for effective group activity where participants learn from their involvement, is explored. Aspects of ‘holistic learning within groups are identified as are qualities which make for a good group facilitator.
